Alice - Head of Analysis
Alice Ball is Head of Analysis at Langland Conservation. She holds a PhD in Complex Systems Simulation, with a focus on agent-based modelling of jaguar populations. She has 8 years of experience working in data science, specialising in machine learning, statistics, and big data analysis. She also has 9 years of experience working for the British Army as an intelligence analyst. During her time with Langland, she has had a variety of analytical projects, from MaxEnt and occupancy modelling of keystone species to qualitative analysis of threats posed to park rangers.

Becky - Chief of Staff
Becky Holmes is Chief of Staff at Langland Conservation. Based in the UK, she holds a BSc in Ecology and Wildlife Conservation and a BA in Graphic and Communication Design. She holds specific expertise in GIS, geospatial analysis, open-source intelligence, data visualisation, C-IWT investigations and image intelligence. Outside of Langland Conservation she is Trustee and Director of The Helvellyn Foundation, a foundation that funds biodiversity conservation, and she is part of the Advisory Group for the Environmental Funders Network, working to increase the amount of philanthropy focused on the environment in the UK.

Jake - Intern Coordinator
Jake Rabin is currently a student at Boston College studying Finance and Sustainable Management. He has worked for several organizations focused on community development and environmental conservation including Reserva: The Youth Land Trust and The Rockhopper Fund. As a member of Langland he is a support intern and helps coordinate the Reserva internship programme. His technical skills include open-source intelligence, image analysis, QGIS and C-IWT investigations.

Jamie - Placement Student
Jamie is currently on a placement with Langland Conservation as part of her BSc in Environmental Studies from the University of Reading in the UK. She has experience in GIS mapping, geospatial analysis, C-IWT investigations, open-source intelligence, and image analysis.

Matt - Founder and CEO
Matt is Langland’s founder and CEO. He has over 20 years experience in building and managing high performance teams in complex environments. He founded Langland having recognised that many of the technologies and techniques developed to counter the most challenging security threats had considerable application in conservation.

Polly - Analyst
Polly is a multidisciplinary conservation scientist working across Langland's analytical and C-IWT projects. She holds a MSc in Conservation Science and Policy from the University of Exeter and BA/MA from the University of Cambridge. Before moving back to the UK for her MSc she managed an eco-tourism business in Mozambique's Bazaruto Archipelago National Park, where she was involved in marine research and community-led conservation initiatives.

Pradipty - Legal and Cyber Analysis Lead
Pradipty Bhardwaj is Legal and Cyber Analysis Lead at Langland Conservation. She is based in India and holds a law degree. She is also pursuing a Ph.D. in cyber-enabled wildlife crime. In addition to analyzing wildlife trafficking, legal cases and criminality across Asia and Africa, she holds expertise in training law enforcement agencies on wildlife laws and due process investigation alongside conceptualizing manuals, handbooks, and other training materials.

Ruari - Chief Technology Officer
Ruari is the Chief Technology Officer at Langland Conservation, with over 8 years of experience in intelligence operations. He joined Langland in 2022 as its first analyst and now drives technology & innovation within the team, as well as capacity-building efforts with partner projects. A graduate of King’s College London, Ruari began his career in the British Army, where he served five years as an intelligence analyst. He has since developed extensive expertise in geospatial intelligence and the application of artificial intelligence in remote sensing. At Langland, Ruari leads the development of an advanced suite of intelligence tools designed to integrate, process, and analyse data, empowering Langland’s conservation partners to make informed, impactful decisions.

Alicia Colson PhD
As an archaeologist and ethnohistorian who works with computing scientists, Alicia collaborates with Indigenous peoples, NGOs and governments in Canada, UK, US, and Antigua to understand the ways in which their pasts have been understood by various small groups of people. She is an Affiliated Research Fellow at the University of Central Lancashire and a recipient of The Explorers Club EC50 award, Class of 2022. As a Wiley Digital Archive Research Fellow she produced an ESRI StoryMap of the Ilhas de Santa Catarina, Brazil and she's also a Co-founder of both Exploration Revealed and the Institute for Science and Technology’s (UK) AI Group.

Alex Cooper (Chair)
Alex Cooper is Chair of the Trustees and has helped Matt since the early days of Langland. After two decades service alongside Matt, he was Director of Mass Testing in the Covid pandemic and has since founded an artificial intelligence company, Electric Twin, with a former colleague from No10.

Lisa Freeman
Lisa Freeman is a practicing barrister who holds a LLM in International Law and Human Rights from the University of Essex. She has spent over 18 years at the English bar and specialises in international civil fraud, asset recovery (proceeds of crime), and money laundering advisory and reporting. She has delivered lectures and workshops internationally for the UN and EU on mechanisms for the detection and prevention of money laundering. Her free time is spent scuba diving.

Roger Stringer MBE
Roger Stringer MBE is a senior diplomat at the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). Spending most of his career overseas, Roger was recently His Majesty’s Ambassador to Angola. He previously served in leadership roles in Pakistan, France, Afghanistan, South Africa, and Iraq. Roger had a previous career as a frontline British Army officer, seeing operational service in Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Iraq. Roger brings a range of diplomatic, national security, military and policy experience to the Board of Trustees. Roger is passionate about Africa and conservation, having a profound connection with the Continent and its ecosystems, flora and fauna. Roger speaks fluent French and Portuguese.

Simon Rogers OBE
Simon is a serving military officer with 24 years of experience. His career has had an operational focus, where deployments and campaigns have seen him operate across the globe, on land and at sea. Both as a Chief of Staff, and a Commander he has designed as well as delivered change programmes that have improved policy, capability, and ultimately output. With a keen interest in ethics and effective decision making, he is currently learning how AI can harnessed for Defence.

Internships and Placements
At Langland Conservation we are passionate about cultivating the next generation of intelligence driven conservationists. We run an annual internship programme in partnership with Reserva, a youth-led conservation organisation with an inspiring board of young upcoming conservationists.
